The ninth Tirthankara, known by both names in common use.
The ninth Tirthankara, born at Kakandi, and the one whose two names are furthest apart: Digambara sources generally give Pushpadanta, Svetambara sources Suvidhinatha. Both are old and both are correct within their tradition.
Pushpadanta reads as flower-toothed; Suvidhinatha as lord of good practice. The tradition offers name-stories for each, and the existence of two well-attested names for one figure is itself the most interesting thing the record preserves about him.
The crocodile is his emblem. He attained nirvana at Shikharji.
This figure is known from tradition; there is no independent historical evidence. That is a statement about the record, not about the tradition.
