Jaisalmer Fort Jain Temples

Seven interconnected temples inside the living fort, carved from the same yellow sandstone as the walls around them.

The temples are built into the fabric of an inhabited fort rather than standing apart from it, so the approach is through lanes of houses and shops. The stone is the local yellow sandstone, which at certain hours makes the whole fort one colour.

The Jinabhadra Suri library here holds palm-leaf manuscripts from the twelfth century onward, among the oldest Jain collections still in the place it was assembled.
