Khajuraho Jain Temples

The eastern group at Khajuraho, including the Parshvanatha temple — the largest and earliest of the Jain temples on the site.

The eastern group at Khajuraho, built under the Chandelas in the tenth and eleventh centuries and contemporary with the better-known temples to the west.

The Parshvanatha temple is the largest and earliest of them. Its sculpture is of the same school and quality as the rest of the site, which is the point worth making: the Jain and Hindu temples at Khajuraho were built by the same workshops for the same patrons, and the distinction visitors draw between them today is sharper than the one the eleventh century drew.
